Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most. For a specific situation, call or write to us.

How much does an investigation cost?

The first consultation is free. After the assessment, you receive a written estimate before work begins. Mandates are billed hourly, plus expenses (travel, searches, equipment), as agreed in the mandate.

Is my request kept confidential?

Yes. Your request is read only by a licensed investigator. Every mandate is covered by a confidentiality undertaking, and we never publish client names or cases.

Are you licensed?

Yes. CargoTrace Investigation is the investigation division of M.Y. Technologie & Sécurité, holder of agency licence INV 20063701 from Québec’s Bureau de la sécurité privée. Every investigator holds an individual agent licence.

Can your reports be used in court?

They are written to be: dated facts, cited sources, numbered exhibits, chain of custody. Admissibility is for the court to decide, and the investigator can testify about what was observed.

Where do you operate?

Québec. Ontario and Canada–U.S. corridors in collaboration with locally licensed partners.

How quickly can you act?

On the emergency line, a call-back is guaranteed within 2 hours, 7 days a week. Through the form, we usually reply within 24 business hours. For a recent theft, call: the first 24 to 48 hours are critical.

Which mandates do you refuse?

Any mandate that is unlawful or dangerous for someone. For example: harassing, stalking or intimidating a person. Finding someone who is fleeing violence. Getting into an account or device without permission. Recording private conversations.

How are you different from the police?

The police investigate criminal offences and have powers we do not. We work for a client on a defined mandate and devote the time and expertise the file needs. We work with police forces when it helps.

Do you work for individuals?

Yes, for some mandates with a legitimate purpose: surveillance, locating a person once the purpose is verified, tracker detection on a vehicle. The client’s identity and purpose are verified.

What happens after I send the form?

An investigator contacts you as you prefer (phone or email), usually within 24 business hours. Sending the form commits you to nothing and is not a mandate.

A matter to entrust to us?

We usually reply within 24 business hours. Your request is read only by a licensed investigator.
